Who we are
AO Lab is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. We build free Scripture infrastructure and give it away. For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, AO Lab is the data controller for this website. You can reach us at hello@helloao.org.
What we collect on this website
Nothing, unless you choose to send it. We run no analytics package, no tracking pixels, no advertising tags, and no cookies of our own. There is no login and no contact form; to reach us from this site you use an ordinary email link. Browsing these pages leaves us nothing that identifies you.
Two features do collect something, and only when you use them: the donation form and the email signup. Both are described under third parties below.
If we ever add an account system or analytics, we will update this policy and say so plainly before any collection begins.
Server logs
Like any website, this site is delivered by a hosting provider whose servers process the technical information your browser sends in order to return a page: your IP address, the time of the request, the address requested, and your browser's user-agent string. This is standard delivery and abuse-protection data held by the provider. We do not use it to build profiles, we do not join it to anything else, and we do not attempt to identify anyone from it.
Third parties we rely on
Donations
Our donation form is provided by Better.Giving and is embedded on our website. When you use it, the information you enter — your name, email address, payment details, and gift amount — is submitted to Better.Giving and the relevant payment processor, not to this website. AO Lab receives the donor and gift records needed to acknowledge your gift, issue receipts, and meet its accounting and tax obligations. Better.Giving and the payment processors handle that data under their own privacy policies, and they may set their own cookies inside the form.
Email list
Our email signup is a form provided by Benchmark Email, opened only when you click a link asking to join. The email address and any name you enter are submitted to Benchmark Email, who store and send on our behalf under their own privacy policy. After a successful signup the form records one flag in your browser's local storage so it does not ask you again; that flag stays on your device and is not readable by us. We use your address only to send AO Lab updates, on the basis of the consent you give by signing up, and every email carries an unsubscribe link. Ask us at hello@helloao.org and we will remove you.
Video
Some pages embed a video hosted on YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube when the page opens: you see a still image served from this site, and the player is only fetched if you click play. Once you do, the player is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com and YouTube receives your IP address and information about your device in order to stream the video, under Google's privacy policy. If you never click play, no request reaches YouTube.
Typefaces
This site loads the Radley and Inter typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser requests those font files directly from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
Links away from this site
We link to services we do not control, including YouTube, Discord, GitHub, the National Christian Foundation, and Google. Once you follow one of those links, that service's own privacy policy governs what happens next.
Our other services are separate
This policy covers this website only. AO Lab's products and platforms are operated separately, with their own terms, their own consent choices, and — where a ministry runs its own deployment — their own operator. Nothing on this page describes what any of them do.
Your rights
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the GDPR gives you the right to access a copy of your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable form, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
In practice, we hold almost nothing to which those rights could attach: no accounts and no analytics. Where we do hold personal data — donor and gift records arising from a donation, and an address you gave us for our email list — you can exercise these rights by writing to hello@helloao.org, and we will respond within one month.
Legal bases
- Legitimate interests — delivering this website securely and keeping it available.
- Contract and legal obligation — processing, acknowledging, and recording a donation you choose to make, and retaining the records required of a US nonprofit.
- Consent — sending you email updates after you join our list, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or writing to us.
International transfers
AO Lab is based in the United States and our providers operate globally, so data described on this page may be processed in the United States and other countries. Where personal data reaches us from the UK or EEA, we rely on the safeguards our providers have in place for such transfers.
Retention
We keep donor and gift records for as long as US nonprofit accounting and tax rules require. We keep an email address on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. We keep nothing else, because we collect nothing else.
Children
This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes — particularly any change that introduces collection where there is none today — will be described plainly rather than absorbed into a longer document.
